Washington, D.C. – A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for Saturday across the District of Columbia, north-central and northeast Maryland, and northern Virginia as strong winds and dry conditions increase the risk of wildfires.
According to the National Weather Service, the watch is in effect from Saturday morning through Saturday evening. Winds from the northwest are expected to reach 20 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. Relative humidity levels could drop as low as 19%, and fuel moisture is estimated between 5% and 10%, creating favorable conditions for the rapid spread of fires.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and take precautions to prevent accidental fires. Secure loose objects that could be blown away by strong winds, and follow local fire regulations. Officials warn that a Red Flag Warning may be issued if conditions worsen.
The Fire Weather Watch covers Frederick, Carroll, Baltimore, Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, Montgomery, Howard, and Harford counties in Maryland, as well as Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, and Loudoun counties in Virginia.
Stay updated with local weather alerts and be prepared for potential fire restrictions throughout the day.
