Baltimore, MD – Snowfall is blanketing parts of Maryland, with accumulations expected to reach up to six inches in higher elevations. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory, active until 7 p.m. Saturday. Strong wind gusts of up to 40 mph are likely to worsen conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, Garrett County in Maryland and nearby regions in Virginia and West Virginia will experience the heaviest snowfall. Light to moderate snow persisted overnight and is giving way to upslope snow showers this morning. Areas of blowing snow are expected to create hazardous drifts.
Officials urge drivers to plan for slippery roads, especially on bridges and overpasses, which are prone to freezing. Blowing snow will reduce visibility, making travel dangerous. Residents are advised to slow down, drive cautiously, and avoid unnecessary trips.
Elsewhere, central and southern Maryland, including portions of the D.C. metropolitan area, received up to two inches of snow early Saturday morning. Light snow is tapering off but may leave slick conditions on untreated surfaces.
Temperatures are forecast to remain below freezing throughout the day, increasing the potential for ice accumulation. Pedestrians should be cautious on steps, driveways, and sidewalks.
The winter weather advisory emphasizes preparation. Road condition updates can be obtained by dialing 511 in affected areas.
Stay tuned for further updates as conditions evolve throughout the day. Authorities remind the public to stay indoors if possible and exercise caution if venturing outside.
