Baltimore, Maryland – A rare June frost could blanket parts of western Maryland and eastern West Virginia early Monday, with temperatures dipping into the 30s overnight in the higher elevations.
According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, a Frost Advisory is in effect late Sunday night through 10 a.m. Monday for areas along and west of the Allegheny Front, including Garrett County, MD, and parts of Grant and Pendleton counties in WV. Lows are expected to reach 35°F in Oakland and Monterey, with nearby cities like Franklin and Petersburg also dropping into the upper 30s to low 40s.
Gardeners and growers are urged to cover sensitive plants or bring them indoors. Drivers in mountainous areas should also prepare for limited visibility due to patchy valley fog and sharp temperature drops.
This cold snap comes just as meteorological summer begins, making the frost risk particularly unusual. Cities farther east—such as Harrisonburg (42°F), Leesburg (47°F), and Washington, D.C. (52°F)—will remain chilly but above the frost threshold.
Temperatures are expected to rebound by Monday afternoon, but additional advisories may be issued if the cold lingers into early Tuesday.
