Marquette, MI – Residents in Upper Michigan should brace for a mix of rain and snow Thursday, with travel potentially impacted on US-41 and surrounding roads. Wet snow is expected to develop by Thursday afternoon, with accumulation between a half-inch and four inches, particularly in Baraga County and higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, rain will transition to snow as temperatures drop Thursday morning. Snowfall will intensify over higher terrain, with wind gusts reaching up to 35 mph. Travelers are urged to prepare for reduced visibility and slick roads. Highs on Thursday will range from 39 to 46 degrees, with lows dipping near freezing overnight.

The forecast calls for scattered showers continuing into Friday, with highs around 44 degrees. Weekend weather remains unsettled, with showers likely Saturday and highs near 39 degrees. Sunday offers a slight reprieve, with chances for showers diminishing but cooler air lingering.

Officials recommend motorists exercise caution, especially on elevated roadways prone to ice and slush. Keep an emergency kit handy, including blankets, flashlights, and a phone charger, when traveling.

Local residents are advised to monitor weather updates closely. Those in higher elevation areas, such as the Huron Mountains, could see the heaviest snowfall. Additionally, outdoor activities should be rescheduled to avoid hazardous conditions during peak precipitation times.
