Marquette, MI –  A winter storm is set to impact Michigan’s Upper Peninsula starting tonight, with snow and icy conditions likely to disrupt Monday’s commute. Residents traveling on US-41 and nearby roadways should prepare for slippery conditions as snow accumulates overnight and throughout the day Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, light snow will begin late Sunday night, transitioning into heavier snow showers early Monday morning. Snowfall totals are expected to range from 1 to 4 inches near Marquette and along Lake Superior, with the heaviest accumulation in western and northern regions.

Colder air moving across Lake Superior will fuel lake-effect snow showers Monday night, continuing intermittently through midweek. Gusty winds from the northwest may reduce visibility, particularly near open roadways such as US-41. Drivers should exercise caution, monitor updated forecasts, and allow extra time for travel.

Looking ahead, conditions remain wintry throughout Thanksgiving week. On Tuesday, snow chances decrease slightly, but light accumulations remain possible. Highs will hover in the mid-30s with lows dipping into the 20s. Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day bring continued snow shower potential, with chilly highs near freezing.

The National Weather Service advises using winter tires and keeping emergency supplies on hand, particularly for those traveling long distances to visit family this holiday week. Plan routes carefully and check road conditions regularly to avoid delays.
