Indianapolis, IN – A major winter storm is set to impact Indiana this weekend, bringing heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain to central and southern parts of the state. Forecasters warn of widespread travel disruptions along the I-70 corridor beginning Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm is expected to deliver 6 to 10 inches of snow to central Indiana, with areas along I-70 potentially seeing accumulations in the low double digits. Southern Indiana, including Bloomington, may face additional challenges from freezing rain and sleet, with up to 0.1 inches of ice expected near the Ohio River. The storm will arrive Sunday afternoon and continue through Monday evening.

Residents are urged to prepare for hazardous travel conditions and potential power outages caused by heavy snow and ice accumulation. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roadways will become especially slick, posing a danger to drivers. Motorists should avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours and keep an emergency kit in their vehicles.

The storm marks the first major winter weather event of 2025. After the storm clears, temperatures are expected to drop significantly, with a low of 11°F Monday night and highs only reaching the low 20s by Tuesday.
