Caribou, Maine – Maine’s summer heat takes a sharp turn Monday night as scattered thunderstorms push into Aroostook County, bringing gusty winds and heavy rain. Residents in Caribou, Presque Isle, and along Route 1 should prepare for wet roads and reduced visibility during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, an 80% chance of storms will develop Monday after 6 p.m. and continue overnight. While not expected to be severe, storms may include wind gusts up to 20 mph and locally heavy rainfall. Spotty flooding is possible in low-lying areas, especially near poorly drained intersections.

Showers are likely to continue into early Tuesday, but skies will begin to clear by midday. Tuesday night brings a much-needed break, with partly cloudy skies and lows around 56°F.
