Caribou, ME – Light snow and freezing temperatures are forecast to hit northern Maine early Monday, bringing travel concerns and chilly conditions to the region. Residents should prepare for 1 to 2 inches of snow accumulation, particularly in southwestern areas, and freezing temperatures across the state.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Caribou, the snowfall will begin overnight into Monday, with highs expected to hover in the low to mid-20s in northern areas. Conditions along the coast will stay near freezing. Drivers are advised to monitor road conditions and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall.

Looking ahead, Sunday’s forecast calls for sunny to partly cloudy skies and milder conditions. However, by Tuesday night into Wednesday, a weak system may bring additional patchy snow or flurries. Temperatures are expected to remain slightly above normal for mid-January, ranging from the upper teens inland to near 30 degrees along the coast.

No major storms are expected through the upcoming week, offering some relief for those weary of severe winter weather. Still, frigid nights and icy patches on roadways could create hazards for drivers and pedestrians.

By midweek, daytime temperatures will moderate slightly, with highs near freezing across most of the region, though overnight lows will remain well below freezing. Residents are encouraged to dress in layers and take precautions to protect against frostbite during outdoor activities.
