CARIBOU, Maine – Strong northwest winds are expected to whip across much of Maine through Tuesday evening, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph and posing risks to travel and power lines. The National Weather Service in Caribou issued a Wind Advisory that remains in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, winds will blow steadily between 15 and 25 mph, with the strongest gusts expected across the Central Highlands, Coastal DownEast, Far Eastern, and Northern Maine regions. The advisory covers areas including Aroostook, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock, and Washington counties.

Gusty conditions may cause unsecured objects to blow around and could lead to scattered power outages. Tree limbs may snap under the strain, and high-profile vehicles could experience difficult driving conditions on open roads and bridges.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, trash bins, and decorations before the strongest winds peak Tuesday afternoon. Drivers should exercise extra caution, particularly on north-south highways where crosswinds could be strongest.

Winds are expected to ease by Tuesday night, though cooler air will linger midweek before calmer conditions return across northern and coastal Maine.
