Caribou, ME – Northern Maine residents should prepare for bitter cold temperatures and scattered snow showers over the coming days, with weather conditions worsening into the weekend. The National Weather Service (NWS) has forecast highs barely reaching the 20s and lows plummeting to the single digits, with wind chills making it feel even colder.

According to the NWS, Wednesday will see scattered snow showers, mainly north of the region, with gusts reaching 24 mph. Thursday and Friday bring drier conditions with mostly sunny skies, but nighttime lows will fall below 10°F. Residents are advised to bundle up and take precautions against frostbite during overnight hours.

The forecast takes a turn Saturday afternoon when unsettled weather moves in. Snow is likely after 8 p.m., possibly mixing with rain in some areas. Drivers should exercise caution on roadways, especially on major routes such as U.S. Route 1, as slippery conditions are expected.

Sunday may bring another round of snow, with accumulations and travel delays possible. The NWS predicts temperatures in the low 30s, offering a brief reprieve from the cold but still presenting hazardous conditions for outdoor activities.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather updates for changes and prepare for extended cold into next week. Emergency kits for vehicles, including blankets and flashlights, are highly recommended.
