Caribou, ME – Snowfall is expected to arrive in Maine this weekend, followed by dangerously cold temperatures dropping as low as -10°F. Residents should prepare for hazardous conditions and extreme cold beginning Saturday night and continuing into early next week.
According to the National Weather Service, a storm system will bring snow to Downeast and northern Maine Saturday evening, with accumulation likely into Sunday morning. Coastal areas could see a mix of rain and snow, while inland regions are expected to receive measurable snow. Travel on major routes like I-95 could become treacherous, and residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall.
As the storm exits, Arctic air will move into the region Sunday night. Highs Monday will only reach 10°F, with wind chills making it feel much colder. Overnight lows through Tuesday are forecast to plunge to -10°F or below in some areas, with wind chills as low as -20°F.
The National Weather Service warns that prolonged exposure to these temperatures can lead to frostbite or hypothermia. Residents are advised to stay indoors, dress in warm layers when outside, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.
Looking ahead, snow chances linger into Monday before tapering off. The frigid air will persist through midweek, with slightly warmer conditions possible by Thursday.
