Bangor, Maine – Dangerous heat and the risk of severe thunderstorms are converging on the Bangor Region this afternoon, with isolated storms capable of producing damaging winds and heavy rain.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, temperatures will climb into the 80s across much of the state, with interior Downeast areas and Bangor reaching into the low 90s. A cold front sweeping through the region will spark thunderstorms, some of which may turn severe. Heat index values could feel closer to 95°F near Bangor.

The threat includes strong wind gusts and localized downpours, particularly along the I-95 corridor and across Penobscot and Hancock counties. Drivers and outdoor workers should stay alert for quickly changing weather conditions. The National Weather Service urges people to seek shelter when thunder roars and to avoid open areas during storms.

Additional rounds of storms may develop again Monday afternoon, adding to the risk of flash flooding in already saturated areas.

Warnings remain in effect through Sunday evening. More advisories may be issued as the system progresses.
