Caribou, Maine – Steady rain is soaking northern Maine today as a low-pressure system tracks northeast, with the heaviest downpours expected across Aroostook County and surrounding areas this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, rain will persist through tonight before tapering to drizzle and sprinkles as drier air moves in aloft. Temperatures will hover in the upper 40s to low 50s during the day and remain mild overnight. Winds from the south may trigger isolated rumbles of thunder along the coast, particularly near Eastport and Bar Harbor, but conditions are not highly favorable for storms.

Roadways across towns like Houlton, Fort Kent, and Millinocket may experience ponding, especially where leaves and debris clog storm drains. Commuters should slow down and turn headlights on during heavier bursts. Rain gear is recommended throughout the day, with umbrellas getting frequent use across Bangor and Dover-Foxcroft.

Looking ahead, another round of rain is expected to move in over the weekend, with the Downeast region likely seeing the most accumulation.

Rain will taper late tonight, but showers return Saturday—check for updated advisories before making weekend travel plans.
