Caribou drivers may face slick roads Saturday afternoon as heavy rain and thunderstorms sweep across northern Maine. Outdoor weekend plans, including football games, could see delays or cancellations.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, showers will move in Saturday morning before intensifying by midday. Storms could produce gusts up to 25 mph and rainfall amounts between a half and one inch. Motorists traveling Route 1 and Route 161 should allow extra time and avoid water-covered roads.
Friday night will bring a chance of showers, mainly between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., with lows near 62 degrees. Winds from the south will reach 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.
Saturday’s rain could peak between noon and 2 p.m. before tapering into the evening. The wet weather continues into early Sunday with additional showers possible, especially near Caribou and surrounding Aroostook County communities.
By Sunday night, skies turn mostly cloudy, with drier air arriving for Monday. High pressure brings mostly sunny conditions Monday and Tuesday, offering a welcome break before slight shower chances return midweek.
