Caribou, ME – A winter storm is set to bring snow, rain, and strong winds to northern Maine today through Thursday. The Route 11 corridor and higher elevations in areas such as Fort Kent and Greenville are expected to see the heaviest snowfall, with totals reaching up to 9 inches. Travelers are advised to prepare for hazardous conditions, especially in these regions.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, precipitation will begin as rain in areas like Bangor and Dover-Foxcroft before transitioning to snow by late tonight. Snow accumulation will intensify Thursday morning, primarily in higher elevations, tapering off by Thursday evening. Gusty winds of up to 32 mph are expected Thursday, reducing visibility and creating the potential for blowing snow.

Motorists along Routes 1 and 11 should exercise caution as icy conditions may develop overnight. Crews will be working to clear roads, but heavy snow could delay progress in higher elevations.

Temperatures will dip significantly Friday, with daytime highs near 22°F and wind chills making it feel much colder. By Saturday, conditions will stabilize, but the cold will persist with highs in the teens and lows in the single digits.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and limit travel during peak storm hours. Snowfall is forecasted to end by Friday morning, but roads may remain icy into the weekend.
