Caribou, ME – Snow showers will affect areas across Maine today, especially along Route 1 and the Downeast region, as temperatures remain cold but slightly warmer than earlier this week. Residents should prepare for slick roadways and reduced visibility, particularly in the Central Highlands and near the shoreline.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered snow showers are likely through late afternoon, bringing up to a few inches of accumulation along the coast. Highs are expected to reach 16°F, but wind chills could make it feel as low as -12°F in some areas. Travelers are urged to drive cautiously, particularly on Route 1, where conditions may worsen during the day.

Tonight, snow will taper off before 11 p.m., with skies becoming partly cloudy. Lows will drop to around -1°F, with light winds and icy patches expected overnight. Friday promises sunnier skies with a high near 18°F, though wind chills will remain biting.

Looking ahead, the weekend will stay mostly clear with highs nearing 17°F on Saturday, but Sunday could bring another chance of snow showers, especially in the afternoon. Temperatures will inch upward into next week, reaching the mid-20s by Monday, though snow chances persist into Tuesday.

Residents should keep an eye on forecasts for updates and take precautions to ensure safety on icy roads. The Maine Department of Transportation advises limiting travel during periods of heavy snow and keeping emergency kits in vehicles.
