Caribou, ME – An Arctic cold front is set to sweep through Maine starting Monday night, bringing snow squalls, gusty winds, and plummeting temperatures that will make for dangerous travel conditions across the region. Residents are urged to prepare for icy roads and frigid wind chills as conditions rapidly deteriorate.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, strong southerly winds will build Monday, preceding the arrival of the Arctic cold front late Monday night. Snow squalls are expected to develop Tuesday morning, creating hazardous whiteout conditions on major roadways, including U.S. Route 1. High winds of up to 35 mph will accompany the squalls, significantly reducing visibility.

By Tuesday afternoon, temperatures will plunge to single digits, with wind chills dropping as low as -20°F. Residents should bundle up and limit outdoor exposure to avoid frostbite. The NWS warns that conditions will remain frigid through Wednesday, with daytime highs struggling to reach 10°F.

Looking ahead, a slight chance of light snow remains in the forecast for Wednesday and Wednesday night, with conditions turning partly sunny by Thursday. However, the bitter cold will persist, and residents should ensure their homes and vehicles are equipped for freezing temperatures.

The NWS advises travelers to plan for potential delays on Tuesday morning, avoid unnecessary trips, and stay updated on the latest weather advisories. Road conditions may remain hazardous, especially in northern areas.

Be sure to check local forecasts frequently and take safety precautions as Maine braces for another blast of harsh winter weather.
