Lubbock, TX – Residents across the South Plains should prepare for a cold night tonight followed by a windy but sunny Wednesday as another cold front moves through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, winds are expected to ease this evening, allowing temperatures to drop into the low to mid-30s overnight. Several communities may briefly fall near or below freezing by early Wednesday morning.
Forecast lows include around 33 degrees in Lubbock, 31 in Plainview, 30 in Friona and Levelland, and as cold as 29 degrees in Denver City. Areas such as Brownfield, Tulia, and Childress are also expected to see lows near the freezing mark.
A second cold front will push through the region Wednesday morning, bringing breezy north to north-northwest winds of 20 to 25 mph, according to the NWS. Despite the wind, skies are expected to remain sunny.
High temperatures Wednesday will rebound into the mid to upper 50s, with Lubbock forecast to reach about 57 degrees by the afternoon. The combination of sunshine and strong winds may make conditions feel cooler at times, especially during the morning hours.
Drivers of high-profile vehicles should be cautious during the day due to gusty winds, particularly on open highways across Lubbock County and surrounding areas in the Texas Panhandle and South Plains.
No precipitation is expected with this system, but residents are encouraged to protect sensitive plants and pets from the overnight cold.
