Lubbock, TX – Residents across the Caprock should prepare for a wintry mix Saturday night as light snow could create slick roads and freezing conditions. The National Weather Service predicts temperatures dropping to 16°F tonight, with up to one inch of snow possible before skies clear by midnight.

According to the National Weather Service, the most likely areas to see snow accumulation include northern portions of the Caprock. Roads like Interstate 27 and US Route 84 could become slippery. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds and allow extra travel time.

Sunday will bring sunny skies, but temperatures will remain cold, with a high of just 28°F and winds from the north at 5 to 10 mph. Sunday night will see clear conditions, but the low will drop further to a frigid 13°F, making frost likely.

The five-day outlook suggests gradual warming. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday will be mostly sunny with a high of 29°F, while Tuesday will climb to 34°F. By Wednesday, the region will see a more comfortable high of 53°F under mostly sunny skies.

Residents should dress warmly, limit outdoor activity tonight, and check weather updates frequently. Stay vigilant for icy patches and frost-covered roads in the morning.
