Louisville, Kentucky – Another round of wintry weather is expected across parts of Kentucky and southern Indiana on Friday as a fast-moving system crosses the Ohio Valley, bringing a renewed chance for snow and wintry precipitation along major corridors including Interstates 64, 65, and 75.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, the best chance for accumulating snow will be across southeast Indiana and northeast Kentucky, including the Bluegrass Region. Areas farther southwest, including Louisville and communities along I-65, will see lower probabilities, with conditions more likely to remain dry or limited to flurries and light snow showers.
Forecasters say a sharp cutoff is expected between snow and dry conditions as the system moves from northwest to southeast during the day Friday. A narrow band of precipitation is forecast to develop ahead of an advancing cold front, creating a corridor of wintry mix potential before colder air settles in.
The most likely timing for snow is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST (8 a.m. to 3 p.m. CST), with flurries and light snow showers possibly lingering into Friday night. While widespread heavy accumulation is not anticipated, brief slick spots could develop on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses, particularly along I-64 east of Louisville and I-75 near Lexington.
Following the system, colder air will move into the region, leading to a cold start to the weekend. Temperatures are expected to fall below seasonal averages, reinforcing the risk for lingering icy patches overnight where snow falls.
For commuters, students, and afternoon travelers, officials recommend monitoring road conditions closely and allowing extra travel time on Friday.
The National Weather Service notes forecast confidence is medium, and additional updates will be issued as the system approaches.
