SHREVEPORT, LA – A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for portions of Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas starting Thursday morning through Friday. Heavy mixed precipitation, including up to six inches of snow and a half-inch of ice, could make travel dangerous.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, hazardous conditions are expected from 6 a.m. Thursday to noon Friday. Icy roads and slick bridges are anticipated, especially along major highways like I-20 and US-71. The storm could also bring down trees and power lines, leading to potential outages. Residents are advised to monitor forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel during this period.

The wintry mix will begin Thursday morning, with snow accumulation between two and six inches likely across northern Louisiana and southern Arkansas. By Thursday night, freezing rain and ice accumulation could worsen conditions. Areas in northeast Texas, including Longview and Mount Pleasant, should also prepare for hazardous driving.

Friday will see lingering freezing rain before conditions improve by the afternoon. The five-day forecast calls for sunny skies and highs in the 40s this weekend, but nighttime lows will remain near freezing.

Prepare now by assembling an emergency kit with blankets, water, flashlights, and tire chains. Delay travel if possible, and check local updates for road conditions.
