BATON ROUGE, La. – The Mississippi River glows faintly under a hazy dawn, calm air carrying the faint scent of the Gulf northward. Early risers across south Louisiana wake to another tranquil start — mild, still, and slightly humid — as a string of warm November days continues into the weekend. But with that warmth comes one quiet hazard: morning fog.
The National Weather Service in New Orleans warns that patchy fog could develop early Thursday and again Friday, especially along the I-10 and I-55 corridors near Gonzales, Hammond, and Slidell. Visibility may drop quickly in low-lying or marshy areas, so drivers should plan for slower commutes between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. After the fog lifts, skies will clear to bright sunshine, and highs will climb near 75°F.
From Thursday through Saturday, expect calm conditions — light southerly winds, steady humidity, and highs running 5–10 degrees above normal. Friday and Saturday will both see highs in the upper 70s, with dry air and mostly clear skies. This stretch offers ideal weather for late-fall yardwork, festivals, and early Thanksgiving travel prep.
By Sunday, clouds begin to drift in from the west, signaling a shift in the pattern. The next weak front may approach late Sunday or Monday, bringing a 20–30% chance of light rain and a few rumbles of thunder. No severe weather is expected, but this marks the first hint of a more active setup for Thanksgiving week.
After a mild, foggy stretch, Louisiana’s fall warmth holds firm a little longer — a “November pause” before more unsettled Gulf weather begins its return early next week.
