Gretna, Louisiana – Thunderstorms are likely to sweep across southeast Louisiana by mid-morning Thursday, bringing lightning, downpours, and flash flood concerns near New Orleans.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are expected between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., with more storms possible later in the day. Some could bring heavy rainfall and dangerous wind gusts, especially along I-10 and I-610 corridors. High temperatures will reach 89°F with light winds shifting from southeast to south at 10 mph.

Residents in Gretna, Metairie, and New Orleans should avoid flooded roads and plan for possible delays or detours. Localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas and poorly drained streets, is a top concern. Keep phones charged in case of power outages.

Thursday night brings a 30% chance of additional storms, mostly before 7 p.m., followed by clearing skies and lows near 78°F.

Friday will remain active, with showers and thunderstorms again likely between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., then clearing into the weekend.
