Shreveport, Louisiana – Thunderstorms could bring gusty winds and quarter-sized hail to parts of Central Louisiana and East Texas this afternoon and evening, as a low-end severe weather threat develops across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a Level 1 out of 5 severe risk is in place for cities including Shreveport, Natchitoches, and Tyler, with the highest chance for severe weather expected between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. The storms may also extend into southeastern Oklahoma and southern Arkansas later tonight.

Damaging wind gusts over 60 mph and isolated hail are the main hazards, particularly in areas south of I-20. Rain chances increase sharply across the Ark-La-Tex region this afternoon, with precipitation probabilities reaching 60% in Shreveport and Tyler.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours, and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. Local emergency management officials recommend charging devices in case of power outages and staying indoors during thunderstorms.

Storm chances taper off late tonight, but isolated showers could linger into early Wednesday. Additional watches or warnings may be issued later today as the system evolves.
