Shreveport, Louisiana – Spring heat returns to northwest Louisiana Thursday, but it won’t come quietly. Thunderstorms could spark by early afternoon across Shreveport, raising concerns for outdoor plans and I-20 travel.

According to the National Weather Service, a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after 1 p.m. Thursday as highs climb to 84°F. Calm winds will shift northwest by evening. While not severe, storms may bring brief downpours or lightning between 1–7 p.m., especially along roadways like I-49 and I-20.

Friday follows with a slightly stronger 40 percent chance of storms after 1 p.m., under mostly sunny skies and a high near 78°F. Thunder and isolated rain may persist into Friday night, before tapering after midnight.

Saturday will bring only a 30 percent chance of storms, mostly in the afternoon. Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 11) looks brighter, with partly sunny skies and a high near 80°F, though another round of afternoon storms can’t be ruled out.

Drivers should stay alert for changing road conditions, particularly during afternoon travel windows. Keep phones charged for alerts and avoid parking under trees during thunderstorm hours.
