Shreveport, LA – A large section of northern and central Louisiana is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 1 a.m. CDT Monday, with residents urged to remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions.
According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK, Watch 63 was issued at 6:20 p.m. CDT Sunday and includes 20 Louisiana parishes. Among the parishes listed are Bossier, Caddo, De Soto, Ouachita, Lincoln, Jackson, Sabine, Union, and Webster.
Forecasters warn that damaging winds up to 60 mph and large hail are possible in these areas. The storms could develop quickly and become severe, particularly during the late evening and overnight hours.
Residents in the watch area should monitor weather alerts and be prepared to take shelter if warnings are issued. Secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and review emergency plans. Avoid travel during the watch period if possible, especially in low-visibility conditions caused by heavy rain or hail.
The Severe Thunderstorm Watch follows a weekend of volatile weather across the region. While Louisiana is no stranger to spring storms, forecasters advise taking this threat seriously due to the potential for fast-moving cells and limited nighttime visibility.
