Lake Charles, LA – A High Wind Warning is in effect for much of Louisiana and Texas from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST on Tuesday as strong winds threaten power outages and travel disruptions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lake Charles, south winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph, are expected across central, southwest, and south-central Louisiana. Portions of Texas, including Hardin, Jefferson, Jasper, Newton, Orange, and Tyler counties, will also experience gusts up to 40 mph.

The NWS warns that the strong winds could knock down trees and power lines, leading to widespread power outages. High-profile vehicles, such as trucks and trailers, may experience difficulty on highways due to strong gusts. Residents are advised to remain indoors, particularly in lower levels of their homes, and avoid windows to reduce the risk of injury from falling debris.

Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution, especially on bridges and overpasses where wind speeds may be amplified. Those traveling through the affected areas should secure loose outdoor items and prepare for possible power disruptions.

The warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday, after which conditions are expected to gradually improve.
