Shreveport, Louisiana – Triple-digit heat indices and a streak of steamy days could cause trouble in Shreveport and across northwest Louisiana starting Wednesday. The National Weather Service is tracking a slight chance for thunderstorms Wednesday evening, but it’s the persistent heat building into the weekend that poses a greater concern for residents, travelers, and road crews.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms will arrive Wednesday afternoon with highs near 91°F. Winds from the south at 5 mph may offer limited relief. Temperatures will rise sharply Thursday, topping out near 93°F, followed by an even hotter Friday at 96°F under mostly sunny skies. Heat index values could approach 100°F each afternoon.

Locals are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and check on elderly neighbors or pets. Drivers on I-20 and I-49 should watch for overheating vehicles and roadwork crews managing heat-sensitive materials.

The thunderstorm threat increases Saturday into Monday, with a 30–40% chance of rain each day. Though not widespread, these storms could bring lightning, gusty winds, and brief downpours, especially during the afternoon hours.

Highs remain in the mid-90s through Monday, with lows in the mid-70s overnight. Expect muggy, unsettled evenings into next week.
