New Orleans, LA – Drivers across southeastern Louisiana should prepare for a soggy afternoon as scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms move into the New Orleans metro by 4 p.m. Wednesday, bringing the risk of brief downpours and wet roads during the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 30 percent chance of rain and storms through late afternoon, with the highest impact expected between 4 and 5 p.m. Areas including Gretna, Metairie, and Kenner may see spotty thunderstorms before skies gradually clear overnight. Winds will remain light, out of the southeast at 5 to 10 mph, and temperatures are forecast to top out near 83°F.
While flooding isn’t expected, motorists should allow extra time on roadways like I-10 and US-90, where sudden showers can cause slick spots. Residents are urged to check local alerts and secure outdoor items ahead of any gusty winds or lightning. Tonight, mostly cloudy skies will linger with lows dipping to around 70°F.
Looking ahead, the five-day forecast shows only a slight chance of showers Thursday morning, followed by a stretch of mostly sunny, warmer weather. Highs will climb into the mid-80s Friday through Sunday, with sunny skies expected to return across southeast Louisiana just in time for the weekend.
