Shreveport, La. – Extreme heat will continue to grip the ArkLaTex region through 8 p.m. Thursday, with heat index values soaring as high as 115° in areas under an Extreme Heat Warning, including Shreveport, Texarkana, and El Dorado.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, dangerous conditions are expected across northern Louisiana, southern Arkansas, and northeast Texas. Actual high temperatures will range from the upper 90s to 102°F, but humidity will make it feel even hotter. A Heat Advisory is in place for surrounding counties, where the heat index could reach up to 110°.

Texarkana, Hope, Monroe, and Natchitoches are among the cities facing “major” heat risk, with limited cooling relief expected until Thursday evening. Afternoon and early evening storms could pop up in scattered spots—Shreveport and Natchitoches have a 40% chance of rain—but they’ll offer only brief relief.

Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak heat, use air conditioning, wear light-colored clothing, and avoid strenuous activity. Fans alone may not be sufficient in warning areas. Heat illness can occur quickly, especially for vulnerable populations and outdoor workers.

Extreme Heat Warnings remain in effect until 8 p.m. CDT Thursday. Further advisories may be issued if conditions persist into the weekend.
