Shreveport, La. – Heavy rain could bring flash flooding from Shreveport to Monroe starting early Tuesday as a Flood Watch takes effect across much of north and central Louisiana.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, the watch begins at 7 a.m. Tuesday and continues through 7 a.m. Wednesday. Forecasters say widespread rain, with pockets of intense downpours, could lead to flooding in low-lying areas, urban streets, and already saturated ground. The watch includes 20 parishes, from Caddo and Bossier in the northwest to La Salle and Caldwell in central Louisiana.
Cities like Ruston, Natchitoches, and Alexandria may see 2 to 4 inches of rain, with isolated higher totals possible. High water could impact local roads, creeks, and drainage systems, especially in areas hit by recent storms. Emergency officials urge drivers to avoid flooded roadways and prepare for rapid changes in water levels.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor belongings, clear storm drains if safe, and monitor weather alerts. Power outages are possible in heavier bands of rain.
The Flood Watch remains in effect through Wednesday morning, and additional advisories may follow if rainfall rates increase or flood conditions develop overnight.
