Shreveport, La. – Roads in northwestern Louisiana could flood rapidly this evening as heavy rainfall returns to the region, with totals of 3 to 4 inches expected in cities like Shreveport and Natchitoches by midnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a Moderate Risk (Level 3 of 4) for excessive rainfall is in place across much of the ArkLaTex region today and tonight. There’s at least a 40% probability of flash flooding within 25 miles of any point in this zone, which includes Longview, Ruston, Center, and Monroe. Most of the rainfall is expected between Tuesday afternoon and late evening.
Rain-soaked roadways, low-lying areas, and poor drainage systems are the primary concern. Streets in Shreveport’s Broadmoor and Highland neighborhoods, and highways near Natchitoches and Hemphill, could become impassable. Motorists are urged to avoid travel during periods of intense rain and never drive through water-covered roads.
Additional rainfall through midweek could worsen conditions, especially near rivers and lakes. Local emergency managers recommend charging devices, preparing alternate routes, and monitoring weather alerts closely.
Flash flood watches remain active through tonight, with more advisories possible later this week if rainfall continues.
