Shreveport, LA – Residents across northwest Louisiana and parts of Texas and Arkansas should prepare for potentially severe weather beginning Friday and continuing into Saturday night, with damaging winds, hail, and heavy rainfall possible.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe storms is forecast for both Friday, June 6, and Saturday, June 7. Friday’s threat is expected mainly during the daytime hours, while Saturday’s risk increases during the evening and overnight.

On Friday, the main hazards will include strong wind gusts and hail, primarily affecting areas north of Interstate 20, including portions of southern Arkansas and northeast Texas. Saturday night could bring more widespread threats, including heavier rainfall that could lead to localized flooding.

The NWS warns that while the overall severe threat remains limited, the timing and overnight nature of the Saturday storms heighten concerns for public safety. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings, particularly during sleeping hours.

Communities including Shreveport, Ruston, El Dorado, and Texarkana fall within the Level 2 risk zone. Areas further south, including Natchitoches and Monroe, are under a Level 1 risk but could still see strong storms.

The forecast may evolve as the weekend approaches. The public is advised to monitor weather updates through trusted sources and prepare emergency kits in case of power outages or storm damage.

Updates will be posted on the National Weather Service’s official page at weather.gov/shv and through their @NWSShreveport social media channels.
