Los Angeles, CA – A winter weather advisory remains in effect through Monday afternoon for the mountains of Ventura and Los Angeles counties, with snow and high winds expected to create hazardous travel conditions, particularly along Interstate 5 near the Grapevine.
According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles, snowfall will range from 2 to 4 inches across most mountain areas, with up to 6 inches possible on interior slopes near the Kern County line. Lower elevations between 3,000 and 5,000 feet could see a dusting to 2 inches, potentially affecting travel through the Grapevine. Winds are forecast to gust as high as 55 mph, increasing the risk of falling tree branches and reduced visibility.
The advisory covers the Northern Ventura County Mountains, Interstate 5 Corridor, and the Western and Eastern San Gabriel Mountains, including Wrightwood, Mount Wilson, and Mount Baldy. The heaviest snowfall is expected between Sunday night and early Monday morning, with hazardous road conditions likely to impact the Monday morning commute.
Drivers are urged to use caution, as icy roads and blowing snow may lead to delays or closures. Motorists can check road conditions by dialing 511 or visiting the California Department of Transportation website.
The winter weather advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. PST Monday for Ventura County and Interstate 5, and until 6 a.m. PST Monday for the San Gabriel Mountains.
