New Haven, CT – Residents in southern Connecticut and Long Island are being urged to take precautions as an early spring cold snap threatens sensitive vegetation overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Frost Advisory remains in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Friday for Southern New Haven, Southern Middlesex, and Southern New London Counties in Connecticut, as well as Northeast and Southeast Suffolk Counties in New York.
Temperatures are expected to dip as low as 33°F during the advisory window, creating ideal conditions for frost formation. Officials warn that unprotected outdoor plants may suffer damage or be killed if not covered or brought indoors.
While frost is not unusual for mid-April in coastal areas, the advisory serves as a reminder that colder pockets can still pose a risk to springtime gardening and agriculture. Residents are encouraged to shield tender vegetation with protective coverings or relocate potted plants to warmer spots overnight.
This advisory marks one of the first frost warnings of the season for the region. For ongoing updates, visit weather.gov/nyc.
