Central Illinois – Heavy rainfall is expected to drench central and southeast Illinois through Tuesday. Areas south of I-72 could receive 1.5 to 3 inches of rain. Localized flooding may occur, but the rain will benefit regions experiencing drought. Thunderstorms will accompany the rainfall in some areas, creating heavier downpours in poor drainage zones.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm will bring the most significant rain Sunday into Tuesday. Rain totals will vary, with areas north of I-72 likely to see between 0.25 to 1 inch of rain. However, the highest totals are expected south of I-72.
Following the rain, temperatures will drop, with highs reaching the 70s and lows dipping into the 50s by Wednesday. By Thursday, dry conditions and sunny skies will return, bringing a welcome break from the storms.
Residents are urged to monitor forecasts closely, as conditions could lead to sudden flooding, especially in urban areas.
