Hey comic book fans and readers! Do you love free comics? Because Saturday, May 4, 2019 is not only Star Wars Day, but Free Comic Book Day at many comic book stores across the country. Free Comic Book Day started in 2002 and has been a rapidly growing event for comic fans. In recent years, publishers and movie studios have used Free Comic Book Day to release comics that tie in with your favorite superhero movies. Popular toy and statue makers, including Funko Pops, have also started releasing limited editions items on Free Comic Book Day. On a personal note, I’m most excited for the new Spider-Man issue that ties into Marvel’s Carnage event, written by acclaimed writer Donny Cates. This year’s Free Comic Day features a whopping 51 comic titles. Check them out at www.freecomicbookday.com. It’s recommended arriving at your local store early since publishers typically send stores a limited supply. In the Kankakee area, The Dragon’s Refuge, located at 1250 Larry Power Rd. in Bourbonnais, will participate in the event. The Dragon’s Refuge will open at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Visit, http://thedragonsrefuge.com/ for more information. There is a limit of three free comics per person. Outside of the Kankakee area the Free Comic Book Day website has a handy search feature to find the nearest comic retailer near you. After Free Comic Book Day don’t forget to revisit your local store to start a monthly pull list to keep up with your favorite comic book titles.!
