Las Vegas, NV – Showers and thunderstorms are expected to hit the Las Vegas area this afternoon and continue into the evening, bringing heavy rain, small hail, and gusty winds. The National Weather Service issued warnings for these severe weather conditions, urging residents to stay aware as these storms develop.
According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms may include lightning, gusty winds, and localized moderate to heavy rain. There is also a possibility of small hail or graupel. Thunderstorms are anticipated to peak in intensity later in the afternoon and early evening, so outdoor plans may need to be adjusted.
In addition to the storms, gusty winds will sweep through the region, particularly in the Western Mojave Desert, including Barstow. Winds in this area are expected to range from 40 to 50 mph through Friday morning. Esmeralda and Central Nye counties will also see winds gusting at 35 to 45 mph through the evening. Drivers, especially those with high-profile vehicles, should be extra cautious of sudden gusts and dust storms.
