Milwaukee, WI – The National Weather Service has issued a Gale Watch for Lake Michigan, starting Sunday afternoon and continuing through late Sunday night. Strong northwest winds, ranging from 15 to 25 knots, are forecast, with gusts reaching 35 knots. Waves between 7 and 10 feet are expected, posing dangerous conditions for mariners.
The affected areas include southern open waters of Lake Michigan, stretching from Two Rivers, WI, to St. Joseph, MI. The NWS warns that these hazardous conditions may cause vessels to capsize or sustain damage.
According to the NWS, mariners should consider altering plans to avoid dangerous weather. Those already on the water are urged to seek safe harbor or secure their vessels. High winds and waves could significantly reduce visibility, increasing the risks for those on the lake.
The watch is set to begin Sunday afternoon and last through late Sunday night. Mariners are advised to remain vigilant and prepared.
