Potsdam, NY – A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Friday for Southern St. Lawrence and Southern Franklin counties, including the areas around Tupper Lake, Gouverneur, and Saranac Lake. Heavy snow and gusty winds are creating hazardous travel conditions.

The National Weather Service reports additional snow accumulations of up to 4 inches, bringing storm totals to 10 to 20 inches, with localized amounts near 2 feet. Wind gusts up to 40 mph are causing near whiteout conditions, particularly along Route 3 between Tupper Lake and Harrisville.

Travelers should expect dangerous conditions during both the evening and Friday morning commutes. Drivers are urged to carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water, and to monitor road conditions through New York’s 511 system.

Stay alert for rapidly changing weather and road conditions as heavy snow bands may be separated by dry areas just a few miles away.
