Marquette, MI – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Marquette County, with heavy lake-effect snow creating hazardous travel conditions today. Gusty winds and blowing snow along U.S. 41 are reducing visibility, and drivers are urged to use caution. Snow accumulations could reach 4 inches by evening, with wind gusts nearing 45 mph.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm will persist through tonight, easing slightly before intensifying again Friday over the Keweenaw Peninsula. Today’s temperatures will stay in the low 20s, with wind chills dropping to near zero. Roads are expected to remain slick, particularly along key routes near Lake Superior.
Tonight, snowfall will lighten, but the winds will shift from the northwest, keeping temperatures frigid with lows between 5 and 15 degrees. On Friday, additional snow showers are likely, especially in areas west of Marquette, as winds pick up again from the west-northwest. Highs will remain in the 20s, with lows near 10 degrees by night.
The weekend brings a chance of snow showers Saturday morning, but skies may clear by Sunday. Temperatures will rise into the 30s Sunday afternoon before falling again Sunday night.
Residents should prepare for possible power outages and delays, particularly in coastal areas. Those traveling should carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, blankets, and food.
Stay tuned to the National Weather Service for updates, and check road conditions before heading out.
