Cleveland, OH – Northeast Ohio residents should prepare for significant snowfall this weekend as a lake-effect snowstorm moves into the region. Snowfall could reach up to 8 inches in localized areas, especially near the I-90 corridor.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Cleveland, snow showers will start Friday evening and intensify overnight. The heaviest snow is expected Saturday morning through early afternoon, primarily in the northeastern snowbelt, including Ashtabula and Lake counties. A winter weather advisory may be issued as conditions develop.
Drivers should exercise caution as visibility will be reduced and roads, including I-90, will likely become hazardous. Residents are advised to limit nonessential travel during peak snow times and to monitor for updated alerts.
Friday’s forecast calls for snow showers with highs near 35°F and southeast winds at 10 mph. By Friday night, temperatures will dip to 26°F as snow accumulates. Saturday will remain cloudy, with snow showers likely early and tapering off by late afternoon. Highs will reach 32°F, and winds will shift northwest, bringing colder air into the region.
By Sunday, conditions will improve slightly with mostly cloudy skies and highs near 27°F. Overnight lows could plunge to 17°F, leaving icy conditions on untreated surfaces.
Looking ahead to early next week, another system may bring rain and snow Monday night into Christmas Eve. Residents should remain alert for updates as forecasts evolve.
Stay prepared by stocking up on essential supplies, checking your vehicle’s readiness for winter, and avoiding unnecessary travel during hazardous periods.
