Duluth, MN – Residents of northern Minnesota are bracing for continued snowfall as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through Tuesday morning. Snowfall totals could reach up to 7 inches along the North Shore, while pockets near the South Shore Snowbelt could see as much as 8 inches, potentially creating hazardous travel conditions along Highway 61.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, light to moderate snow will persist Monday before tapering off late in the evening. Lake effect snow is expected to linger through Tuesday morning, particularly in northern Ashland and Iron counties, where additional accumulation is likely. Winds from the north could reduce visibility, especially near Lake Superior.
Travelers should exercise caution on primary routes, including Highway 61 and Interstate 35, where snow-covered roads and blowing snow could make driving conditions treacherous. The heaviest snowfall is projected in the early hours of Tuesday, with lake effect flurries continuing into mid-morning.
Looking ahead, temperatures will drop into the teens Tuesday night, with a high of only 29 degrees on Wednesday. Thanksgiving Day is expected to be breezy and partly sunny, offering relief for holiday travelers, though another chance of snow could develop late Thursday night.
Plan ahead by allowing extra travel time and keeping emergency supplies in your vehicle. For the latest road conditions, visit Minnesota’s 511 service or check updates from the National Weather Service.
