Grand Rapids, MI – Southwest Michigan residents should prepare for significant snowfall as a Winter Weather Advisory takes effect this evening at 7 p.m. The advisory will remain active through 1 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches are expected, with higher amounts possible in isolated areas. Lake effect snow will create rapidly changing visibility and road conditions. Blowing and drifting snow will increase travel hazards, especially near lakeshores.

Temperatures will plummet to near zero Sunday night, with wind chills as low as -10°F. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution on potentially icy roads.

The heaviest snow is anticipated tonight and Sunday, particularly in western and southwestern counties, including Muskegon, Ottawa, and Allegan. Localized dry patches may occur but can shift quickly to heavy snow bands.

Beyond the advisory period, snow showers will likely continue, prolonging hazardous conditions into early next week.

Prepare for extreme cold and sudden visibility changes by checking local forecasts regularly and avoiding unnecessary travel.
