Marquette, MI – Lake-effect snow is expected to intensify across the Marquette region this weekend, with up to 4 inches of accumulation possible by Saturday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory through 7 a.m. Saturday, warning drivers to prepare for hazardous travel conditions, particularly on key routes like M-28.

According to the advisory, the heaviest snowfall will occur in areas north of M-28 and near the Porcupine Mountains. Drivers should anticipate rapidly changing visibility and icy roads, especially during the evening commute. The weather can shift quickly, with some areas experiencing heavy snow while others remain dry.

Saturday’s forecast includes isolated snow showers early, giving way to partly cloudy skies with a high near 25°F. By Saturday night, additional snow chances return, along with lows around 20°F. Sunday is expected to bring a more significant snowfall, with up to 90% precipitation and highs reaching 30°F.

Looking ahead, snow showers are likely to continue into Monday, with temperatures dropping to 22°F during the day and single digits at night. Icy conditions are likely to persist through the early part of the week, so residents are advised to remain cautious on roads and sidewalks.
