Gaylord, MI – Drivers in Northern Michigan are being urged to exercise caution as lake effect snow showers return today, accompanied by strong winds that could create dangerous travel conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Gaylord has issued a wind advisory through 8 p.m., warning of gusts reaching up to 45 mph.
Blowing and drifting snow are expected to reduce visibility to less than a mile in some areas, especially on exposed roadways such as US-131 and M-32. The combination of strong winds and icy surfaces could result in slick roads and potential accidents. Drivers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and allow extra time if they must be on the road.
Snow showers will continue into tonight, with temperatures plummeting to 7°F. Wind chill values could make it feel even colder. On Tuesday, additional snow showers are forecast, with daytime highs around 28°F and accumulations of up to three inches possible in localized areas.
Looking ahead, the weather is expected to remain cold and unsettled through midweek, with another round of lake effect snow likely Wednesday. Residents should monitor forecasts and take precautions to stay safe in hazardous conditions.
