Marquette, MI – Lake effect snow will persist across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula today, leaving roads slick and temperatures plummeting. Residents in Marquette and surrounding areas should prepare for 1-3 inches of fresh snow by nightfall, with frigid wind chills creating dangerous outdoor conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snowfall is expected in Alger and northern Luce counties, where conditions will remain hazardous. Temperatures will fall as low as -14°F in interior regions tonight, with wind chills dipping into the -20s. These brutal conditions can cause frostbite in minutes, so residents are advised to avoid extended exposure and keep emergency kits handy for travel.
Friday brings some relief as the snow shifts offshore and skies clear. However, temperatures will remain below freezing, reaching a high of just 17°F. Winds will stay brisk, creating continued risks for icy patches on major roads, including US-41 and M-28. Sunny skies will dominate during the day, offering better visibility for drivers.
The weekend forecast indicates a slight chance of additional snow showers beginning Saturday afternoon. Highs will climb to 28°F on Saturday but drop to 12°F overnight. Sunday looks partly sunny, with a high of 23°F and calm conditions.
Stay informed of weather alerts and road conditions by checking local advisories before traveling. Limit time outdoors, and ensure pets are brought inside during extreme cold.
