Albany, NY – A winter storm is set to sweep through Upstate New York, delivering lake-effect snow to the western Adirondacks this weekend. Areas north of Route 28 and west of Route 30 could see several inches to multiple feet of snow, making travel hazardous. Cold and blustery conditions are expected to extend into early next week across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, lake-effect snow will intensify today and persist through Sunday. Heaviest snowfall will target areas near Watertown, where over 36 inches is forecast. Elsewhere, Albany will remain cold but mostly dry, with highs in the low 40s today before dropping into the 30s Saturday and Sunday.
Drivers should exercise caution, especially on snow-prone roads like Route 28 and Route 30. Visibility may drop to near zero during periods of heavy snowfall, and untreated surfaces could quickly become slick. If travel is unavoidable, ensure your vehicle is equipped for winter conditions.
Looking ahead, Saturday will bring increasing clouds and a high of 37 degrees in Albany. Sunday promises partly sunny skies with similar highs, while nighttime lows across the region will dip into the teens. Cold, dry conditions will dominate through Tuesday, with occasional chances for light snow midweek.
This weekend’s winter blast highlights the importance of preparedness. Residents in affected areas should stock up on supplies and monitor forecasts for real-time updates. Those near the Adirondacks should expect localized heavy snow bands and consider delaying travel until conditions improve.
