Lake Charles, Louisiana – Lake Charles streets could flood by late Wednesday afternoon as intense thunderstorms dump up to 3 inches of rain across the region, prompting a Flash Flood Warning for southeastern Calcasieu Parish.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, the warning remains in effect until 4:30 p.m. CDT. Radar detected rainfall rates between 1 and 3 inches per hour, with 1 to 2 inches already fallen. Additional heavy rain is likely, raising the risk of flash flooding in low-lying areas, urban streets, and near underpasses.

Areas most at risk include Lake Charles, Sulphur, Westlake, Iowa, Moss Bluff, Carlyss, Holmwood, and Hackberry. Portions of U.S. Highway 90 and local roads near the Lake Charles Regional Airport may become impassable if downpours continue. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded routes and heed barricades.

Emergency officials remind residents: Turn around, don’t drown. Most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Stay alert for rapidly rising water and consider delaying non-essential travel until conditions improve.

The Flash Flood Warning may be extended if rainfall persists. Updates will be issued as needed through the evening.
