Miami, FL – South Florida is facing significant coastal flooding risks this week as King Tides elevate water levels across the region, beginning today and peaking Tuesday. Residents in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and surrounding areas are urged to avoid parking in low-lying coastal zones and to be cautious of flooded roads, especially during high tides.
According to the National Weather Service Miami, the increased tides will affect areas like Naples, Virginia Key, and Port Everglades through the middle of the week. Boaters are advised to check tidal clearance under bridges, as water levels are expected to rise higher than usual.
King Tides are caused by the gravitational alignment of the Sun and Moon, which also coincides with Tuesday’s Supermoon and partial lunar eclipse. The peak of the eclipse will occur at 10:44 p.m., but tidal flooding will continue earlier in the day, posing risks on roads and near the coast.
Residents are encouraged to check local tidal forecasts and take precautions to protect their vehicles and homes from potential saltwater damage.
